This itinerary is special because the Pioneer Christmas event & Holiday Showcase only happen ONCE a year! The date is Saturday, December 6th and we really hope you’ll spend that weekend in Litchfield!
Step back in time and experience Christmas like it was in 1862 at the Forest City Stockade Pioneer Christmas. The 12-building replica of the original settlement is decorated and staffed with actors portraying the Christmas activities of the past. Some of the activities you’ll find are pioneer crafts, horse drawn sleigh rides and live music. There is also food available such as fry bread and lefse! The cost of this event is $5 per person but under 12 are free! The Stockade is a truly a unique find and we hope you’ll want to make Pioneer Christmas a new must-see every year!
After your memorable day, head back into Litchfield and grab dinner at the Muddy Cow. What’s not to love: 2 for 1’s all day and free cheeseballs! They often offer Saturday night entertainment so be sure to check out their Facebook page to see what’s happening!
Now it’s time to enjoy the sounds of the season at the Holiday Showcase! You’ll find this performance located at the Bernie Aaker Auditorium on Saturday evening at 7 PM. Listen to local talent perform all different types of seasonal music. After the show, take a stroll through our festive Central Park and drive around to local businesses participating in Light Up Litchfield. Don’t forget to vote for your favorite light displays!
It’s finally time to rest and relax at the SureStay Plus. Enjoy a complementary breakfast in the morning before a quick swim or soak in the hot tub. Before you head for home, head downtown to Three Sons Seltzer for brunch. You’ll love this charming brewpub offering a cozy atmosphere and a variety of house-made beers & seltzers. With a Sunday brunch menu featuring items for both kids and adults, it’s the perfect spot to relax and enjoy as you wrap up your weekend in Litchfield!
Last on the list ~ if you brought the kids, be sure to visit Santa at the Santa House in Central Park from 12-2 PM that afternoon. What a way to top off a weekend full of new Christmas memories!
